As many of you know, Sauro & Alton PLLC chooses a charity project each year to give back to the local community. This year, in conjunction with our pro bono work at the Children’s’ Law Center of Minnesota, we have selected The Bridge for Youth. It is a homeless shelter for children and teens, ranging from ages 10 to 18, that we learned about from the kids that we help represent in the foster care system.
It provides a bed, clothing, and resources for kids whose parents cannot or will not take care of them. These kids literally have nothing of their own, and from our experience, getting “lost” in the system is grueling reality for many of the older teens. The Bridge also works cooperatively with 12 other youth shelters in Minnesota to find clothing, beds, and basic needs for these kids.
For the month of October 2016, we will be heading up a charity drive for donations to The Bridge. Their greatest needs include updated gently used teenage clothing, sneakers, fall/winter gear, fall/winter pajamas, new underwear (any size), new twin sheet sets and $5 gift cards to various merchants Target, Cub, Subway, Jimmy Johns.
We are coordinating efforts with 3 areas high schools (Woodbury, Eastridge, and Cretin) and Augsburg College to help with the donation drive. Those places will serve as a drop off point for donations. Our firm will as well. Please consider not only donating, but spreading the word to others about donating to this incredible organization. Michael and Brad will be the coordinators for Woodbury and Gabe has agreed to coordinate for Augsburg. We have coordinators in place for Cretin and Eastridge as well.
